The story behind the song is that Stradlin had been dating a girl called Monique Lewis. When they broke up, Rose found he had the feels for Lewis as well and decided to pursue her. Lewis had decided that she had moved on from the rock ‘n roll scene and refused Rose’s advancements. This upset Rose and moved him to tears and she told him, “Don’t you cry”, hence the lyrics and theme of heartbreak and unrequited love. In homage to Lewis, Rose has her face tattooed on his right bicep.

When i listened to this as a kid i really didn't understand it but now that im older and understand what this song is about now it makes me really sad when i listen to it because it connects with me on an emotional level not because someone broke up with me but because i still haven't found someone in my life that i can think about someone special only to me , it hurts my soul so bad , but on the bright side it has become my one of all time favourites so thank you guns and roses for everything.
